I want a fun new car that is also good on gas, but frankly everything out there leaves me cold. They are all too big and heavy, and loaded with useless crap that does nothing to enhance the driving experience. Then I found..... Well, this!
It goes 0-60 in 2.86 seconds, and is supposedly road-legal. It weighs 1150lbs and has 300hp Sure, it is a bit down on options (no windshield or roof are available), but I think the Ariel Atom would be the perfect commuter car-so long as it is not raining. There is even a more powerful version with 500hp available, but it is a bit more pricey. This one, with the supercharged Honda Civic Type-R engine, goes for around $47,000, with a base one that has an Ecotec in it going for $35,000.
I am kidding only in the sense that I lack the funds to get it. Otherwise, I would so rock the commute in this thing!

Then again, I could also build a Lotus/Caterham 7 based kit car too by using a donor Miata's powertrain, etc. and turbocharge it, for a similar power to weight ratio at a fraction of the cost.
