Well I want a new exhaust system because mine sounds bad as of now. I have a 350sbc with block hugger headers and I want to know if I should go to a larger diameter exhaust(I have 2 1/4in.) and what I should do for mufflers(I have glasspacks). I don't know if I should go with high flow like some dynomax bullets, or with flowmaster or whatever but I kinda want something not to drony inside but is nice and aggressive outside. Would really high flow kill my backpressure or would it help open my car up at high rpms? What sounds the best for a street driven car? Some personal experience and insight would be cool. Thanks
I am running the same setup (350, headers, 2" something pipe) and I can say that my car without cats is fairly quiet on the inside with the windows up and can get plenty loud on the outside. Flowmaster 40's are what I am running and pretty happy with them as well
I've got the 2 1/2" pypes race pro system with the x pipe and SS tails. I got mine from Summit but our exhaust guy on here ( www.BSMEXHAUST.com ) can prolly get you a better deal. I'm sure he'll chime in here pretty soon. What kinda crossmember do you have right now, if it's factory you might have to do something different or or grad a different one (crossmember).
at 2 1/4in you're fine. you want as little backpressure as possible, but you do want velocity which the smaller tubes will give you. and a 350 won't push enough air (except for a full race motor) to need a larger pipe.
i have the pypes street pro's and like the sound.
Yea couldn't I just notch the crossmember or squeeze the pipes through where there at now. And I would stick with 2 1/4 but it seems like all the good mufflers are 2 1/2 or bigger.
Thing is you can buy dual crossmembers for reasonable money and it will save you time & headache. Its up to you but checkout www.maliburaceing.com their is alway a couple advertisers selling them for gbodys on there. 2 1/4" will be ideal for your setup. Many people like the sound of Flowmasters but they don't flow so great and they are the worst offenders of drone. I would check out the inexpensive gbody systems at jeggs/summit and add their straight thru type muffler (their brand but similar to Walker Ultra/Magnaflow etc) largest case available for better sound control without restriction also an X pipe system is ideal but an H is almost as effective easier and cheaper. So I would get an H for your setup.
So is that iceman crossmember a good one? Are there any that are better? Cash is an issue for me, but I want good quality too and the iceman looks reasonable
