What is the widest tires you can fit on a 1980 Monte Carlo

I am thinking about getting 255/40/18 for the rear and 235/40/18 for the front. Could i get wider tires on the back or what?

Im running 285/40-17's on a 9.5 with 4.5bs. They fit good, no frame notch, don't stick out, but I should roll the lips.

I have 275/60/15s on the back of my 1980 monte. they are on original Chevy rally wheels with a 1/4 inch spacer. I have no rubbing at all.

Our friend has an 80 somethin Monte, and he's got 10.5's 275/60/15 I believe they were.

I live around the Kansas City area. And yes its my car was built for me by my grandpal and has been in are family for 28 years now

most g bodies are the same before my x wife got my bu it had a regal frame underneath it so 28 10.5 will fit but the back space on the wheel is a little funny i have it wrote down in my pile of papers some where or u can notch the frame if want to go bigger would not advise if u are puttin down some serious power
