Hey guys I was pulling the old headliner out of my 442 the other day and I found this little guy in the center of the roof above the back window. I have no idea what it is, it looks to be factory. My salon donor car didnt have this. It seems to have two little red lights in it that face the front of the car. Anyways any help is appreciated. Ill have to get some pictures up of the new interior going in too. I'm doing it with a mix of black and maroon.

looks like it was for rear tail light fiber optics. was there anything hooked to it?

Correct. Should have fiber optic lines going to it. The idea was that you could see it in the rear view mirror and would know if a bulb was burned out.

If i remember correctly there was only one wire hooked to it, but there was probably two at one time. someone butchered up my car pretty good before i got a hold of it and started restoring it. do you think that this thing would be listed in the service manual so i can look into it more?

It's an option that not very many cars were ordered with.
There should be fiber-optic deals that go on the top of the fronts of the fenders to complete the set.

Oh I see so thats why it looks like someone did some mud work on the tops of my front fenders lol. The previous owner must have taken them off when the car was hit in the front and he put the euro front end on it (thank god thats gone btw). Anyways does anyone know where I might be able to acquire the fiber optics for the fenders? If its a pretty rare thing to have I think it might be pretty cool to put them back on the car.

The fiber optic things are VERY RARE on a G body, but not as much on some of the larger GM cars. I would look at some 80's RWD Cadillacs like Sedan De Villes, etc. and see if they would work. They are common on Cadillacs, but may also be on full size Buicks or Oldsmobiles too. As for if they are in the service manual, I think it would be in the body manual if anywhere. Remember that the service manual set has 3 or 4 pieces to it for a given year :Fischer Body Manual, Electrical, Chassis, and sometimes a supplement.
