Okay, so my car is 25 years old. It's exempt from emissions testing in Ohio. I realize when this happens, most people cut their cats and toss em in the trash. My question is (I started thinking about this after reading another swap thread) when people swap out their v6's for v8's... how much of the original wiring... or miles and miles of electrical crap, do you really end up keeping?
I had a donor car, which I stripped everything out of, and frankly, I don't wanna have to mess with that wiring nightmare ever again. So when I junk the computer, what else can I get away with tossing? Do you guys try and reuse your harness or do you pretty much rerun stuff (lights, etc) from scratch?
I'm in school right now and my brain kinda hurts and I don't really know if this is a stupid question or not... but this is something I'm gonna have to deal with soon and I haven't really put too much thought into it.

The good thing about G bodies is that the computer harness is completely separate from the other engine wiring. All you need to do is get a non computer controlled carb and distributor. If you plan on keeping the a/c and lock up for the trans, you will need to find a way to control them since the computer normally controls that. Be careful when removing the computer wiring, the heater harness runs through the same grommet. It is located on the passenger side under the heater box.

When I removed the 'puter in my Monte there were 2 harness' out of 2 sep grommets. All the 'puter wires and their related sensors came out as 1 nice neat and sep package ( sensors unplugged and wires pulled back thru the grommet ). HVAC operation and controls were not affected but the lockup for my trans was, oh and the "check engine" light was on for some reason 😉

Completely removing the wheelwell on the PS made it pretty easy.

My Check Engine "empty socket" never comes on.
