Hey , does anyone know the max wheelsize and backspacing needed for 79 elcamino I am looking at 18 By 9.5 rear and 18 by 8 front the car is lowered 2 inch in front [ eaton springs] and has new Edelbrock upper and lower trailing arms, sway bar and braces in the rear thanks Bobby

I cant speak for wheel size, I'm not a 18" guy. On my 80 which is the same exact frame as yours I got 275 60's in there on Cragars 15 x 8. The rim's have about 4" of backspace.
So.... 275 mm = 10.8" , That's roughly how wide my tire is, and with the back space pretty much in the middle of the tire that splits the tire in half to 5.4". With that said, I'm about .5" from hitting the inside of the frame. So if you wanted to run a 9.5" wide rim, it should have more than 3.5 to 4" backspace. Some rims dont sell with back space specs, they use off set. Offset is another way to measure how deep the rim sits within the width of it. In other words, offset will either be a - number or a + number in mm, that is how far it's either toward the inside of the car or toward the outside of the car FROM the center of the rim. Notice the from in caps!
Here is a site that might help. http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/info_specs.jsp
It wasn't working at the time of this post but I think it just had some server error, try it in a few hours or in a day.
