Which secondary rods are you guys running on your CCC Quadrajets? I am getting ready to mod the secondaries so they open up all of the way, and was wondering which metering rods you guys were running?
Thanks.

I'm running "DR" rods from a 305 HO on my mostly-stock 305. Throttle response has improved from the stock "CH" rods that were in there. To be honest I just went to the junkyard and pulled all the secondary rods out of all the carbs, and tried out all the different ones I could find. The "DR" rods were the ones recommended on the internet, and they were also the ones I ended up using. They seem a bit richer than the CH rods. Definately you should adjust your secondary air valve opening rate too. Having the "bog" when you stop it suckkkksss. DR rods and tune the secondary air valve spring rate. Makes a HUGE difference in feel when you floor it.

It really depends on your motor. The 400 w/cam in my TA likes rich rods, while the stock 301 in my wagon only wanted lean rods. It is easy to go overboard and more is not always better.

I'm just running the stock 307 Y engine in my cutlass, it has headers and true duals, and a VIN 9 cam. I'm getting ready to mod my secondary linkage to open 100%, it only opens about 60% now. I have heard to do this you need to install new secondary rods to match the newfound airflow. I read a post about it somewhere but can't seem to find it.
I am rebuilding an '83 Olds 800 cfm Q-Jet to put on my new engine, but I have a bunch of new secondary rods and was going to use them on the 307 for now until I get this 330/350 built. I just found a '70 350 complete & running for $250, so I am going out to pick it up next week. It will be a good candidate for my 330 crank for sure and heads (possibly).
Thanks.

That linkage was probably restricted by the factory because of the 307's lack of flow. Once you get the linkage sorted out so it opens all the way, test and tune one set of rods at a time. Remember the Q-jet is a variable feed type of carb and only gives what the motor needs. As the secondary flap opens, the rods are lifted out of the wells, and fuel/airflow is matched up correctly. Start with the rods you have now, it could be fine as is.

on my ccc qjet on my 307 i had the secondary air valve flap modified to open 100 percent of the way instead of just 40, the 307 liked the cv rods and a dual snorkel air cleaner to go with it.
