Hey there guys! Man, first of all I love reading and learning about all the things that everyone has posted on here about making pieces and parts from other cars work for the budget builders like myself! Although I am not there yet, but will be putting the 78 MC back together this spring and starting the engine build and hopefully getting her fired up in late 2020! I have read thread after thread and found some great information! I wanted to get some opinions and thoughts on which vendor to go to for the 383 stroker kit, cam, valve train, and cylinder heads. Originally I was going to purchase everything from Skip White Performance. I like their detailed explanations of parts, quality, and all the information they provide along with their facility. Upon reading through some threads, I decided to check out Competition Performance and do some price comparison and research on their quality. Not to be disappointed by what they offer at all. I like the fact that I can get all the valve train components from Howards, where as SWP I cannot. Not that big of deal? Competition Cams is a quality vendor as well, but I like one vendor for a system as important as this. am I being too anal about it guys? LOL, maybe. Also cost, year end bonus checks next month, comparing the 2 vendors, SWP comes in a little under $400.00 cheaper for parts. Anyone have good or bad experiences with either of these places? I haven't seen any complaints about either from any thread I have read through. So I am just trying to buy quality that will give me what I am trying to build. A nice little small block, around 400 HP and some decent torque. A cruiser, maybe a car show once in awhile, burn off some rubber here and there and prob get a ticket or too from the local cop! Not a 1/4 mile balls to the wall pissed off nitrous fed supercharged beast. Maybe next time if I can find a nice Gen 1 MC to build! I appreciate all of your opinions and feed back as always guys! If you have any questions that would help your input just let me know!

This is where I bought the short block I used for my 355 build for my Regal but since you are looking to do a 383 SBC

My heads, studs and guideplates and stud girdle are all from Skip White, I bought their NKB 200 aluminum heads with competition valves for HR cam.
These heads are nice and use Erson /PBM valves and all Comp Cams components.
For my cam I went with a Howards retro fit HR since I went with a new 2 piece rear main block.
For rockers I went with some Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller rockers since I am not a fan of aluminum rockers.
Nothing wrong with mixing and matching quality products
I consider mine to be a budget build.

Why not a fan of aluminum rockers?

I got a great price on the Comps and run the XD version on my BBC they are stronger than aluminum and lighter on the valve and the spring pocket is larger and they are rebuildable.
I have had issues with aluminum rockers on my BBC over time the aluminum will fatigue and stress crack usually around the trunion and they are not rebuildable but on mild applications you will probably never have an issue for me it's just piece of mind.

I was trying to build the Regal on a budget in comparison to my Monte which doesn't have one, the Comp rockers are overkill for my 355 but the price was not much more than a quality name brand aluminum so I got them.
