Im running an MTS #15 with turbo 400, and 28" tires. Wondering what to rpm shift at.

The car has a very small carb on it right now (edelbrock 750). Shifted at 4700 or so and ran pretty quick. Shifted progressively higher at 5100 or so (limiter set at 5200) and nothing changed, got slower if anything.

102mph consistently over 3 runs. Wondering if I got slower because of traction or whether the cam doesnt do anything up high in the revs. Theres definitely some tuning needed in this car, so wondering what others shift at.

Great cam. I ran a little less cam with the same tire and ran 110 mph without timeing or carberator adjustments so there was lots left in it. I believe a newer MT-15 cam with small chamber cleaned up heads, headers, ideal gearing converter and tune would take a full weight Gbody to 115 mph in the quarter.

My trans shifted at 5,200 into 2nd and 4,800 to 5,000 into 3rd which I think is about ideal for the motor and cam. Its hard to get a modified stock or Performer intake to make power beyond 5,000 rpms. They might not fall off the table until after 5,500 but you are not making any more power or going any faster just spinning it harder.

Thanks for chiming in.

I took the car to a cruise night tonight, still getting used to it. It needs ALOT of tuning. The carb is setup totally wrong.

The AFR gauge says its leaning out but theres a cloud of black smoke out the back when you gun it. Too much initial but not enough jet up top? Who knows. I have a demon 850 that will be going on next season.

Just going to flog the engine with what its got for now, and see how it does at the strip this weekend.

Yea no carb guru here but the 850 demon sounds better. I used the stock 800 q-jet with a professional rebuild set up for my car specs.

Try WWW.cadillacpower.com. Dave Brode amount others there great at sorting out carb & tuneing. Experienced & helpful guys.
