Other than shortening the drive shaft, its a direct swap.

What's the 7.5 and 8.5 all about and since the studs are -12 mm. I would have to change those but the axles should be the same?

If you are talking about adding the posi unit to your 7.5 then NO it is not a direct fit. But if you are buying the whole rear end then YES.
I guess your post is just unclear to me. Like the question about studs......what does that mean?

Also, where are you located?
If you do get the whole 8.5 rear end, I have a drive shaft for one of those.

It's the whole things axles housing etc but I was curious what posi unit alone would work also and if I can make one fit with my one wheel one housing I have now ....-and with the studs I mean the part the lug nut bolts on these are 12mm which are newer than my 79 which are a different thread ......not sure if I'm buying the posi yet just tryin to get info and deciding if its worth 750$

Gotcha.
You could easily change the studs to SAE or use metric lug nuts.
Someone on here had a complete 8.5 posi for sale for 700. So it seems that is about the going rate.
You probably won't find one worth using much cheaper. I sold one for 1000 but it had moser axles, c-clip eliminators and a spool in it.

On the lug bolts, All you have to do is get 10 lug nuts.
