Will a 255-60/15x8 rally fit on front '78 monte?

The largest tire I ever ran on the front of my Monte were 245/60R15 on a 15 x 8 rim with 4" of backspace and I would say this is probably as large as you can go before having rubbing issues and possibly sticking out of the wheelwell which would look stupid and I ran a 275/60R15 on the rear with the same size rims.
I think the 255/60R15 would be a good rear tire and maybe go with a 235/60R15 in the front to avoid any issues,
Here is an old picture of my car with those rims and tires, ride height could also be an issue even with my 245's if my car was as low as it sits now.

Great, I can get a good new deal these as that's why the question. I suppose I can buy some 235's... Another question, I love that stance as I'm thinking "old school vintage" look... To fit those rears in the pic, did you have to raise the rear end? If so, how did you? Thanks man!!

I'm guessing in the back I just had some "cargo coils" rear replacement springs along with stock front springs.
I have always run a little shorter tire up front and tried to balance out the stance regardless of ride height.
Here is how my car sits now about 2" lower but the tires are actually taller. I sold the gold ARE rims because I need a frontrunner now because of my headers.
The current tires are 295/65R15 M/T drag radials on a 15 x 9.5 rim in the rear and Mastercraft 205/75R15 on a 15 x 4 rim in the front.

you can run the 8 inch width but it may rub without some spacing. If you don't want to do all that hold off and wait for a 7.5 width rim. 8 will fit the back without rubbing everytime but is right at the brink of being a gamble for the front

you said 'its a good deal' I would just go for it if you are feeling the rims. Spacers are not very expensive if you encounter rubbing after slapping them on you can still drive w/ it like that for weeks until you feel like putting the spacers on. Some shops just north of you will slap spacers on your car for around $100 a pair any time if you decide you need them. Make sure you get quality spacers and not chinese junk (which works fine down south but will rust in chicago in MINUTES, literally minutes)

255/60/15 will fit without any issues. I have them on my Regal, and also tried them on a GP. We are talking regular tires here. If you are looking at Drag Radials, or BFG tires, it may be worth a second look. Their width is a bit more than the other brands.

275 is where you start to get iffy.

Why would he want drag radials on the front?

The rims are like new, Mickey Thompson sportman radials.. 255x60 on the 15x8 rims(4)... $625... Tires are brand new...

Don't put drag radials by 8 width front and back and then drive in winter conditions or you will be really disappointed at the outcome. If you must have the rims you saw buy them but take them in to get different tires then or you'll be so sorry at the results of using this tire in winter condition lol
