Wiring diagram for alternator

I have an engine on a cradle I want to run for an extended period, but have no idea how to wire up the alternator. Does anyone have a diagram for this? What parts do I need to buy beyond the alternator wires? I have the starter and distributor and battery all hooked up for short runs I'v given the engine so far. And the alternator is bolted up, but not wired up obviously. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
