Well.... I managed to answer my own questions by finding the wiring diagrams for a 2000 Intrigue online. After reading over 50 pages of diagrams (!), I basically came up with this: everything in the mirror is self-contained, the compass I believe is built inside the mirror, the outside temp sensor is part of the mirror mount, it has 6 LED's per map light, auto dims and the auto dim resets to daylight setting when the car is put in reverse.
Wiring is as follows:
Black: Ground
Orange: Constant Positive
Grey: Switched negative that works off the door PIN switches
Brown: Hot in run, shared circuit with 6 other items
Lt Green: Reverse switch for the auto-dimmer. Probably runs off of 5 volts instead of 12 because it is likely a computer signal wire. The Computer signal wires in the car's chassis harness all seem to be run off of Lt Green wiring, and most computer signals are referenced off of 5 volts so I am guessing that it is that way. It is a positive wire, so it can be run off the backup light wiring with a resistor in the line to step it down as necessary.
I will try to post a pic of it tomorrow as the ones I tried to take tonight did not turn out well enough to post.
There were some earlier versions of this that had the map lights and compass only and they had the compass module outside the mirror, just below the mirror mount on the windshield. I was actually looking for one of those when I found this one. Those seem to have been used on 90's B bodies, and used an LCD display and regular light bulbs instead of the blue LED display and white LED bulbs this one has. After this neat find, I am thinking about looking for a later model Caddy console with cup holders and rear A/C vents to go along with my planned BMW Recaro seats and 5 speed conversion!
