Kids ( 12 year old girl + 8 year old boy ) want to put their saving together and get a new gaming system for themselves. ( I guess my old N64 just isn't holding their interest anymore LOL )

I has been many many years since I have been into gaming and I am looking for a little guidance. The Xbox 360 seems to have the games I would want to play but hell, I have no time for games anymore.

I am leaning towards the Wii system just because of the games I see available are moreso geared towards their age group and seem to be more interactive.

Does anyone have any suggestions or guidance ?? As well it looks like the Wii only comes with one controller. I guess we would need another.

for the money they cost you could just buy a lot of good books for them to read.

Both systems are good, but the X box 360 will age better with them. The 360 has reliability problems though, so be sure to get an extended warranty. I got a 2 year warranty from Squaretrade for $18 when I got my 360 off Ebay for $90. The console failed within a month, but the seller covered it. If you do go the Ebay route, go with a seller with good feedback who will warranty the product. It is worth it in the end as they tend to get the "Red Ring Of Death" (RROD), which is a general hardware failure. I even saw one in Best Buy with a blinking RROD, and had to laugh. I have never played a Wii, but everyone I know has a 360, so for me it makes it a no brainer since I can borrow games, etc. Plus, if you have a party, games like Rock Band are fun for everyone.

As far as controllers go, pretty much all of the systems now come with only one. Mine came with a wireless controller, but I also have a wired controller for guests that cost $25 at Walmart. It's generic, but it works. Wireless is much better and safer since no one will trip over it and bring it all crashing to the floor.

In my opinion, the Wii would be much better for children that young. It is much more interactive and is still fun. Also, I know plenty of people in their mid to upper 20's and they still have plenty of fun with it.

Just hope your kids are not the types that will accidentally throw the controller into the t.v.!

WII... or ps3... xbox 360 shouldn't even be an option..

PS3 is also a blue ray so.. you could benefit from it aswell.

Lets see,
Both cause brain death.
One allows for at least some exercise that might make up for the unhealthy look gamers have since they rarely go outside.
The other, well.

I think neither, but if it must be, the Wii because of the exercise it can provide making a person a little more healthy and may not eat away my taxes as bad on the health care provision side.

We have a WII, my 13 and 16 year old daughters love it. Most of the games you have to be standing to play, you cant just sit around playing most of them unlike the 360. We got a Fit for it on Christmas we are having a blast with it if you get the right games it is good exercise for everyone. I would go with the WII I can give you the names of some of the games we have. A really good one is the outdoor challenge it has a mat like the Dance Dance game but they have to run and Jump.

how

bout neither, teh Wii is going to lose popularity in the long run considering the games are beginning to winde off a bit. The f*g box well completely sucks from overheating, the controller not charging correctly, some even breaking. THe Ps3 which I am honestly quite saddened is not selling so well because of the price well boohoo. At least it doesnt break down like the x box. Id rather pay for something which will not break in the long run. your son will love the new Resident Evil 5 coming out I know I will. For the money get the PS3 it even has a blue ray player built into it. I get sick of the peeps who complain about prices. Hey if I gotta pay for something that cost more but wont break id go with the one that doesnt break, throw the POS that breaks out the window. I think microsoft should leave tbe business. Its only a matter of time before the PS3 catches them anyway. I had my ps2 for 6 years before id had issues and I shipped it in free of charge. Got it back worked ever since but I gave it to a friend. 😀

OK, good food for thought. Both of the kids are active in skating, baseball & reading. Video games only come out on the weekends after supper and I like the ones where we can play one another at the same time. No shooting or super competative games allowed so it looks like the Wii is scoring higher on the list.

The PS3 is the best overall console, but I won't spend that kind of money. $400 when it first came out was just silly. Plus, they screwed up by not having enough good titles when it was new. If they lower the price to around $199 like the Xbox 360, I think it will become popular. Until then, the Xbox will rule the wasteland!
