Need a little help guys. My nephews xbox(not xbox 360) took a dive off the stand it was on. Now when they turn it on the light goes red and it doesn't work. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

The red ring of death... Something is messed up inside. If it does not have a warrenty, Take it apart and take a look inside, It's not that hard to take apart. Just take out the screws under all 4 feet, And There is one underneath the label on the bottom aswell. If you can't see anything wrong with it, It might be something in the programming. If that's the case, I would recommend getting a used one, They are like $60 from Gamestop.

I thought the red rings of death thing was on xbox 360's. And mostly due to overheating.

The RROD ( 3 of 4 rings) is a general hardware failure. I suspect that either the ROM drive is broken or it may have an internal hard drive that broke. It could also be something like a plug that came off the motherboard and just needs to be plugged back in. Take it apart and have a look see. You can't make it any worse, and another one is cheap enough that it is not worth paying someone to fix a broken one.

Alright i'll hopefully go look at it tonight and see what i can find.

It applies to regular Xbox's aswell, Except it is just one ring instead of 3. Mine had it(Both my 360 and original) I went through 3 Xbox 360's because of the RROD, This is my last one, If it goes out, I'm getting a PS3. Check the DVD drive on the Xbox, That was the problem on mine.

If my 360 wasn't under warranty, I would probably put it in another case and do extensive cooling mods. Microsoft's lack of ability to control heat in these things shows a serious lack of engineering expertise. Either that or what happens when accountants are allowed to design products instead of engineers.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't looked at it yet but my brother stopped buy and told me it was making some clicking noises so i'm figuring it has something to do with the drive. I'll let you know if we figure it out. Might just go get a new one. I prefer to stick with my playstations, just can't afford a PS3.

nah, just shows a lack of willingness to pay a couple extra bucks for a decent thermal compound and a couple more fans.
