Sorry for the new post in advance (long time lurker (who couldn't figure out gbodyfourm.com))

Lets get the specs out of the way first:
1986 Canadian Cutlass Supreme vin Y
307 Stock Minus the AC condenser and the stock Carburetor gasket.

So guys, I'm waiting for the clutch assembly to come and I got some bad news from the mechanic; they said I needed a new lower intake gasket, and a new carburetor. luckily I know a little bit more about g-bodys then they do!

So they were wrong about the lower intake gasket. I know I blew the rings (I think), so thats being tested on the 14th.

So heres the deal guys, like everyone I need some help!
First off, what does the G-body ECU actually do?
I wanted to keep my car stock with a dual carb, dual ECU set up, by my 307 is on its way out with 61,000 miles!

The problem is I just ordered the clutch linkage, so if my rings are actually bad, Im going to buy a 350. im looking for a old Target master.

What do you guys think?

PS. Im pretty happy with my 307

First off, if it is a Canadian Cutlass, being an 86, it should have a sbc 305. If it is an Olds 307, not of your accessory brackets will work on a target master sbc 350.

I think I'm confused. Dual carb? Lower intake gasket? Blew the rings?

...and welcome to the forum.

I think your mechanic must not know anything about anything at all.

Me thinks you don't know how to put things into words. I'm left befuddled.

agreed .......and im not trying to be a d!ck either

Your muffler bearings are bad. And Olds 307 rings don't go out until 361,000!

The ECU is the controls the vast array of precise and highly delicate canooter valves that keep the powerhouse 307 running in tip-top shape. Without it you'll be spraying blinker oil everywhere and breaking piston return springs left and right.
