I have done this on many g-bodies. The hood release from a 80's style Chevy van can be retrofitted the the hood release and mount on the front bumper.. It helps when fist bumping the hood to open. It is also a theft deterrent because they won't know how to open hood.

I'm also interested in more info. This would be a cool theft deterrent if you disabled the factory hood release.
