just picked this up for my son. its an 1981 grand prix with 80,000 original miles on it. looks like the car was garage kept a majority of its life, since it came from ohio and the rust issues are extremely minimal. its got a few small issues but considering the age of the car its in really good shape . unfortunately its sporting the 3.8 litre v6 but well try to see what we can do about that in a few months. probably do paint and wheels first. not bad for a $1,000.

I would have killed for that car when I was a kid!
The 301 and the v6 weren't much different in horsepower anyways

Nice to not have a vinyl top too

yeh, the little v6 is pretty peppy, like i said, its only got just over 80,000 miles on it so its still relatively fresh. i told him he could pirate some f my parts for my cutlass im working on like my wheels and the 300hp 350 crate motor i got. but were gonna do wheels and pant first, then worry bout the motor swap down the road. i told him if he didnt like it im sure i could resell it for more than we paid and he could put that towards another car but he said he liked this and hed keep it. smart kid  im glad this one is a hardtop to though, i going through that with my cutty now, just had to hunt down all the trim and trunk filler panel to convert it over, was a real pain.

can any of you guys that are more familiar with the grand prix tell me what ill need to get together to swap a small block chevy into this thing ? its gotta be a quicky swap so i need to get it all together beforehand, the kid aint gonna be happy without wheels very long. im assuming motor mounts, probably a new crossmember as im gonna have to switch trannys. will i need to get a different driveshaft ? its got the 3.8 in it now.

My old 81 also came with the 3.8 and it had a transplanted 350/th350 combo in it. Form the looks of it it had motor mounts welded in and used a th350 crossmember.. Not too sure on the rest though. Nice GP BTW! your son is gonna enjoy it 8) My pops sold me my first GP and i've been stuck on them since.

thanks man, i know hes gonna enjoy it. moneys been extremely tight around here for the last month so i havent got it on the road yet but hopefully within the next week he can start driving it. the funny part is my son just moved back from central ohio to florida to live with me and we go car shopping down here and find this thing. the guy we bought it from is also from our area of ohio, 3 or 4 towns over, and the car is still titled as an ohio car. its like they both ( my son and the car ) left the same area at the same time and met up 1200 miles away, like it was meant to be..LOL. but since its an out of state car its gonna cost me $500. to get it titled down here and around $800. down to get his insurance policy started. next month im hoping we can get the tires ordered for the wheels i gave him , thats gonna nail me for around $600 cuz were using something around a 295/50-15 on the back. i have a set of chevy rallye wheels i picked up for my cutlass awhile back that im giving him, theyre custom widened to 10"x15" rears and the fronts are the 6"x15" , should look dam good. then well do window tint and stereo. after that paint, then finally start working on the motor. i have a small block 350 chubby 300HP 4 bolt crate motor with the 1.94/1.50 heads i also was saving for my cutty that im giving him. its pulled apart now but its in great shape and ready to start building. i agreed to put my project on the backburner and help him get his done. hes a great kid and he deserves it. so ill be updatingthis thread a we make progress.

wow, that thing is clean man. i wonder if the chevy diesel blocks are like the olds diesel blocks. alot of the guys are using the olds diesel blocks to build stroker gas motors i guess. probably not. im hopig we can get the tires ordered for it next month and maybe the windows tinted. then its time to start looking for some tunes. got to love craigs list 😀 . im thinkin git will be about a year before its totally done the way he wants. the engines going to take the most time and money. we have to build it first and get a transmission for it. what size transmission did your diesel come with ?
