I have an 85 El Camino with aftermarket aluminum heads. I installed SS shorty headers that have clearance issues with the frame on the driver side and upper control arm on pass side. I'm thinking about trying SS block hugger headers but so far everything I've found is for angle plug heads. Does anyone know if angle plug headers will fit on straight plug heads? I'm also open to suggestions.

If a header is designed for angle plugs then most likely the layout of the primary tubes will put them in the way of installing the spark plugs on a straight plug head.

I asked the distributor and they told me they won't fit. After reading some other posts, I may have to go with full length headers which I didn't want to do because of ground clearance. I also planned on a full stainless steel dual exhaust system. I really don't want to lay out $500 or more for headers. Not to mention a pair of trashed Remflex gaskets.

I assume you have a small block. When I had small blocks I never had issues with long tube headers and ground clearance. And mine was lowered. I used a Flowtech pair and a Hooker pair. Never any issues other than the Flowtechs rotting out after a year or so.

83MONTESS- Yes, a 350

Yes I'm running a 350. The headers are no name China brand that I thought would give me better ground clearance and be easier to install. I installed motor & trans together with headers mounted. I did grind the A arm some and dented the one tube for the pass side but the drivers side is very close to the frame and a brake line and fuel tank vent line. The drivers side has, I feel, ample room to run a block hugger header and I actually considered a mix of the styles. I have replaced a set of rusted out Hooker super comps on my 84 K10 with cheapo SS that actually fit better than the Hookers.
