installing a universal spal electric fan relay kit

i have a 82 cutlass with a chevy 350. im trying to install a universal thermostatically controlled electric fan relay kit. the instructions are ok but have ran into some brain fartz. if u have installed an electric fan in your car can u please help..

can i just use the fan positive wire to hook it up to the bat and bolt down the negitive wire ?? do i really need the relay kit .. if i just want the fan do i need it ?? ( relay kit )

It depends on what you want to do, but for the average person yes you do. You need to connect the power wire from the relay to the battery, then your going to need a switched 12v source so the fans only turn on when the car is running. then the ground usually comes from the thermostatic switch. Really need to see what your set up is before we can really help. It's easy dont be afraid to do it

So easy to install, heres the first setup i used.. But my temp sensor was wacked out..

So i went with the best of the best "painless wiring" temp sensor and no problems what so ever!! Same set up, just need to ground the other side probe :)
