Too much trans and not enough carb.

A TH400 is overkill behind that motor, and will rob power. A TH350 would be better suited, or better yet put a 200-4R back in to take the bite out of those 3.73's on the highway.

I doubt a 600 cfm carb will get all the power out of that motor.
I would go with a 750 cfm.

I somewhat agree, however if you plan on eventually going bigger and faster, you'll never have to worry about upgrading that trans. Also if you plan on putting any power adders to that mouse you know she'll hold up.

I do agree that you need a larger carb, I would also hit this set up with a 100 shot, add a stroker crank and bring this to a 388 mighty mouse. A good suspension set up and I would expect a high 11's low 12 car

You did not mention anything about your rearend!!! Are you going to upgrade that also?

Check out some of the post by SHOTGUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All power is great but you gotta get it to the floor!!!!! I would worry about suspension first.

It's a 442, so it should have an 8.5 underneath it unless somebody had their fingers in it...
No need to upgrade, just make sure it has a good posi.

The TH400 is nice for peace of mind, but realistically, a properly built TH350 will take anything he can throw at it, and will absorb less horsepower. If it were a big block I'd put the TH400 behind it for sure.
I know of more than a few people with TH350 equiped cars that are sub-10 second rides.

I understand exactly what you are saying, however the loss of horsepower we are talking about is not significant enough to warrant a change to a smaller lighter 350. If he already has this trans i say work with it. I am a believer in do it once and do it right

Just 2 guys with different oppinions

camel humps can be good! some of the best flowing stock iron heads chevy ever produced. if you have the casting numbers for them you can look them up on www.mortec.com

like i said earlier find some of the posts from SHOTGUN in the suspension forum. rear sway bar, 70/30 shocks up front, 50/50 in rear, box in the upper and lower control arms in the rear, weight displacement i.e move battery to trunk, this is if you gonna 1/4 sometimes.

check through some old posts.start with this one i found

what should i do to my suspension with out going to crazy

in my opinion, to start off- pick up a set of moroso trick springs, they are everywhere and can be obtained cheaply. like will6318 has stated: 70/30 shocks up front, 50/50 in rear. i am a proud user/ supporter of comp engineering. shocks are 3 way adjustable and not too expensive.
once you do shocks and springs which set your cars stance , move on to setting up your rear for traction. i was skeptical before trying it and now swear by it- that the anti roll bars make a sh*t ton of difference over an upgraded sway bar. i found a quality built set up on ebay. in my opinion- if you replace your upper and lower control arms with tubular arms ( umi makes a cheap yet quality set ) a set of anti hop bars ( expensive yet effective by edelbrock ) and install an anti roll bar- you will handle heavy modded big block power ( your th400 wont feel so out of place either. all you will need is a supercharger to compliment your drivetrain  )
