I recently had to replace my steering column and got a universal model. I didn't realize until it was too late that there was no wiper switch. I have an '85 Monte Carlo, the connector for the wiper switch has a dark green, pink, purple, and gray wire. I want to do it up 'right' later, but right now I just need wipers. Can I just get a universal dash mount wiper switch or is there some special circuitry in the old column mounted one that I would have to have a direct replacement? I have the schematic from the shop manual I can share if it would be helpful, but I can't tell from it. Thanks in advance!

There's two different ones from what I've seen, a 3 wire and a 4 wire. Difference is the variable speed compared to off, low, high.
I have the variable speed. But I really am just looking for a quick fix. If there was a way to wire it up to a rocker switch and have one speed I would be good with that for now.

The column on my car is not the original one, it does not match the wiper motor so I actually did that. I have a single pole switch mounted and I can turn the lever a certain way and turn the switch on and the wipers will work fine, but the lever would not work on it's own I had to have a switch in there. Been 12 years since I've done it don't know the wire colors of the top of my head.
