I am building a 1986 Cutlass Supreme Brougham that I picked up for $600 about 3 years ago. I just started working on it last year. It came with a nice old 307 and the original owner used a bad metric transmission so it did not play well to get home. Gave it a fairly decent tune-up and put a Turbo-350 out of a 1979 Cutlass Supreme in it and started driving it around. Last year I said it aside when the transmission lost reverse. 3 months ago I put in another Turbo-350 in it and started driving it around again. In August I was driving home from dropping my girlfriend and her son off at home and I was driving down a strip and saw a nice flat black 1983 Cutlass Supreme and decided to give them a run for their money...Not a good idea...I got a Drag racing ticket and speeding ticket (both have been dropped). From there on problems came my way. First there was a small tick/knock in the motor. I gave it oil daily and made sure it was fine until one day driving to the auto shop (where I go to school) I blew a rod and the motor trashed itself. Now I am working on it to get it running again and safe for my family. I am putting in a nice 1971 Oldsmobile Gold 350 Rocket and a nice Turbo-400. The motor has the 307 Aluminum Intake (cheaper and lighter than the Edelbrock I wanted), a double roller timing chain, all new gaskets (to be installed), Mallory points distributor, flex fan, dress up kit, and soon to have a Edelbrock carburetor (to get rid of the 4 barrel Quadrajet). Recently I found that the rear drivers side frame needs replaced due to rot (because the previous owner decided it was a good idea to weld a truck hitch to it to haul a boat).

Some of things I have done to it since I bought it:
1. Replaced bench seat with G-body bucket seats
2. Added air-shocks (need new lines though)
3. Added a Toyota MR2 Spoiler
4. Tuned the 307 and dressed it up

Things I need to do:
1. Install my 350 Rocket and Turbo-400 transmission
2. Replace the rear driver's side frame
3. Replace the yoke in my rear axle (posi)
4. Remove heater core/box and lines
5. Patch up chassis and clan the interior
6. Fix Upper Control arms/bushings
-(alot more things too)

Things I need to get/install:
1. Cutlass Shifter Console (Burgundy)
2. Install floor shifter
3. Put on SS Cragars (Already own)
4. Find and install Cutlass Calais or 442 Gauge Cluster
5. Get aftermarket gauges and install them.

I will post more on my build soon enough, but here are some photos of the car.

Re: 1986 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Build

The Motor is 1971 350 Rocket out of a 1971 Cutlass Supreme 4 door. It was equipped with a 2 barrel intake (cast iron) and hadn't been run is 3 years. When I tore into this dirty beauty I noticed lots of sludge and carbon. It turned over but definitely needed a rebuild. I took the aluminum intake off my 307 to use on this motor. I am painting the motor a nice green color. I am equipping it with a double-roller timing chain, all new gaskets, new carburetor, flex fan, headers and a few minor things. Has #6 heads on it (if those are good).I think it's a nice set-up, but that's just me, not everyone likes what I do (meaning I get a lot of crap for my car work). Anyways here are some photos of my motor so far...I guess it's not the best.

Here is what the rear looks like with SS Cragars on it. I like them and I think the look nice. That's just my opinion. They are 15x8 in the rear and 15x6 in the front.

I painted the Aluminum intake green (my favorite color) and the heads green as well. The heads are #6 heads and I am told they are good heads to have. The springs in them look brand new. I call the motor the "Nuclear Beast" due to the color.

Here is the frame rot. It made it paper thin and it's falls apart easily. Only thing keeping it up is that damned trailer hitch. I am going to replace the rear-end with the rear end from a 4-door. The front end was reworked when I first bought it so I am not in a hurry to get rid of the frame.

Here is the old Oldsmobile 307 motor that was in the Cutlass. It had a Aluminum intake (4-barrel), a Quadrajet Carburetor, Edelbrock Valve covers, Mr.Gasket Chrome Filter Cover, After-market spark plug wires, and new water-pump. Was a good running motor up until the race previously mentioned. The heads are #7A. Had HEI distributor set-up.

**Sorry about all the post and pictures. I am new to this and just want to share my build. A lot of people don't care but I thought maybe some on here would. If it's too much I can stop for a bit. This car probably won't be built soon anyways...

Look at the port size on the 307, then look at your 350 heads. Notice the much smaller ports on the 307? Go to a junk yard and get a pre 85 307 intake, should have 17 or A4 on it. The early 307 have normal size ports. If you have the overdrive TH2004R trans consider it over the power stealing TH400. Also get the .011" shim head gaskets from M+J Proformance. Your original pistons are 24cc and .030" in the hole. You won't hit 8 to 1 compression with Felpro's. Glad you are staying Olds.

I am just gonna have the intake port-matched because I have already looked around at our local U-Pull-Its and all the Oldsmobile Aluminum Intakes are gone. I do not have a TH2004R Transmission, I do however have a TH350, TH400, and a 2-Speed Jetaway out of a 1964 Cutlass F-85/442. Which of those would be better?
And I always stay Olds to Olds, Chevy to Chevy, Buick to Buick, and Pontiac to Pontiac. The only exception I have for this is Cadillac motors because of Cadillac never producing a G-Body. Plus I love the sound of a nice Cadillac 500 motor.

Here is my "dress up" kit for my 350 Rocket. Just to make it look pretty. I am going to be painting the Edelbrock Valve covers, the wing bolts, air cleaner, chrome dipstick, and other little things a nice flat black. I painted some brackets and other things a gloss black however.

If you can get the ports close enough, it should work. If it runs like crap, save up for a Performer. A 6" tail TH350 would be the easiest fit. What pistons are in it, big dish?
