Grandamman has the article on his site! I found the article (Popular Hot Rodding, Aug.1978, pg.66) and thought it was cool!
1978 Grand Am CA ("California" maybe, because Pontiac liked naming its car after places in California)
3785 lbs.
Silver Mist with gold striping
Special: springs, shocks, and sway bars
4-wheel disc brakes (25% less stopping distance), rear were the T.A. option
Wide stance
Super tires:p235/60R (Pirelli CN36) and can keep up with the 9-C-1 Chevy Nova (corners .8g)
Front "K" member support and lower control arm braces
Less resilient rubber bushings
High effort variable 14:1 steering box (helps to turn the bigger tires)
8" wide Pontiac aluminum "snow flake wheels
T.A. type fender flares with front spoiler, and rear "blade" spoiler
English glove leather interior (stitched by Tony Nancy)
Slightly modified 301/Automatic
Power: steering, brakes, windows, and door locks
AM/FM stereo
NO AC!
2:85 low gear Saginaw 4-speed
3.23 posi rear gear

That Grand Am is absolutely beautiful. I love the way the car was appointed with rear spoiler, air dam, wheels, and shaker hood,etc. 8)
It's kinda reminiscent of the earlier '70's A-body Grand Ams.

Doug, that should inspire you to do the work on your El Camino. :wink:

That suspension, less wheels, tires and rear discs was used on the '80 Grand Am and Grand Prix SJ. :wink:
