Can a roll cage be made streetable? I like the look of roll cages and I may put an agressive motor in one day to race it at the strip, but Ive heard that they are more dangerous on the street because you would not be wearing a helmit and you could possibly hit your head on the roll cage in a roll over. Does any one have a roll cage in their street car?

Tell me whats worst, hitting your head on a roll cage bar in a roll over or having the roof crush in and snapping your neck and possibly crushing your skull....... I would opt for a roll cage with padding.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^SPAM ALERT^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you got a ticket for making your car safer, I would ask for my day in court.

As long as you don't disable any "stock" safety features while doing it there should not be an issue.

My bar is just behind the b pillar and the side bar is below the hieght of the window. It is hard to see from the outisde.

Comp engineering bar worked great and even came with nice gussets. The hoop sat right on the frame and fit the roof line well.

You can add one swing out also to make "street life" easier.

To the letter of the law, a aftermarket harness is a no no.

Per NHRA rules any area of the bar that can come in contact with your head needs to be padded anyway.

opps double post

A friend of mine has a daily driven Fox Mustang Convertible with a six point roll bar in it and has never been hassled for it.

im just thinking its gunna be hard to get outta a ticket 😛

I know what hes saying.
Some cops are dicks when it comes to a "race car". Some might look at the cage and think well this guy has no business driving on the street.
And when some cops would let you off with a "warning", if they see things like a cage, or a big tach, or even just a set of racing stickers, they love to just write you up for anything they can. Trust me, I have dealt with it.
But on that same note, if you get a cop thats a "car guy", then they might rather just talk about your car.

And whats up wrong with the jegs cages? Are they just made from cheap tubing, or do they not fit like they should? I was thinking about buying one.

While it might look cool, it adds weight. If you aren't running the number, I can think of a bunch of stuff I'd rather spend my money and time on instead of a cage/bar. Just wear the helmet. It is cheaper and easier to remove when you're tired of it. The effect will be the same. Besides when was the last time you were involved or even witnessed a roll over?

As far as being pulled over and getting a ticket, maybe you shouldn't be driving in a manner that draws such attention to yourself. Roll bar or not, if you display poor or reckless driving manners you might just need to be given a ticket as a reminder that there are others on the road and you need to be safe out there. If you need to race, take it to the track.

i have a cage in my street car, its not NHRA tech legal, but i put it in more for looks, now that its going to be in the mid to low 10's im going to have to cut it out an redo it to tech standards, anyways if you look i bent the door bar down so its easier to get in and out of, but for it to be tech legal it has to run at shoulder heightthen drop....you can alos run pads on the cage if you are worried about hitting your head

Why would anybody get a ticket for a cage? does it obstruct your view? are you using your stock seat belts while driving on the street?

and it is true most cops don't care.. it all about your attitude while you are talking to the cop. I know that for a fact!! I know if I was pushing it with the shift light coming on.. I was toast.. especially when one is behind ya.

I drive normal on the street and push it at the track. I got one ticket for doing 39 in a 25.. and I admitted to him that I was doing about 65.. He got me at 69 MPH!! I was honest with him, and I was appolgetic and I got the break of my life. I was 20 at the time.

And P.S. if you leave the local Dragway doing burnouts.. your gonna get busted!

Cops can be dicks, I am sure they can make something up. Like you said, just be polite and you wont have a problem.
