Was worried more about SCCA/open road type racing than #fastandfuriouswheelstands
I got some great advice about my stock pan, after the motor was together and installed (smh).
I drop about 20 psi from the beginning of the hit to the stripe with 6 qts in a 6 qt pan. If I add an extra quart of oil, then I only lose 8-10psi. Those numbers equate into 65 to 45, and 65 to 55 with an extra qt. Obviously that’s a max of 65, but on the dyno and on a high speed street pull I get 72-75. I’m told the oil is running up the back of the block and then I have just enough oil to keep out of the ******* puckering zone of sub 30. My machine shop guy indicated that it’s not an issue dropping to 50. And he also said if it was areated enough to cause a problem I would be seeing an immediate nose dive to 10 or less area. Then he told me, almost verbatim, what I’ve been told elsewhere- all that oil is costing me .1 of second due to windage control, or lack there of haha.
So at some point I want to drop the stance 2-3”, but the current oil pan hanging 1.5” below the crossmember already is going to make me hold off on that until I get a shorter pan. I’ll probably end up with the Moroso one, but it would be great to find a proven alternative for less do re mi.
