Here's a little tidbit i learned yesterday. If you are in need of a timing chain, cam or crank sprocket the following is required:
If using the gen3 style cam with rear block cam sensor, you can use either an ls1(1x) or ls2(4x) cam sprocket. It's preferred to have a 24x crank reluctor and ecm to match to avoid timing issues.
If using a gen4 cam, you HAVE to use a 4x style cam sprocket, along with an ls2 front timing cover which mounts the cam sensor on the cover. Most are used with the 58x crank reluctor, however the ecm can be adjusted properly in this case. Failure to do so will result in the ecm not being able to recognize the lumps??? and the engine is virtually untuneable!
The exception to this is the '05-06 gto which uses a 24x crank reluctor, but a front cover cam sensor.
The crank sprocket is the same across most LS models. The timing chain is also the same, but everyone recommends using an ls2 style due to strength. Also, trick flow has a sweet adapter kit to use the ls2 chain dampner on a ls1 block which helps more in higher hp applications. I credit Jared (TEXAS82GP) sending me the link for the trick flow piece.
