I'm tired of my Jeep and I don't trust it so I'm thinking of the Toyota 4Runner. I don't know much about them and I like the style of the 1995-2002 better than than the 2003 and up but I don't know which are more dependable. If any of you own or owned one I'd be glad to hear your review of them....thanks..:)

I hate to admit it but

Top notch trucks any year.

The 4th gen 4.7 V-8's are AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!

Tons and tons of power, and will drive through anything...

The 3rd gen you are looking at has one of the largest aftermarket parts resources out there! but straigh 4, V-6 or turbo diesel ....boooooooooooo

It's a Toyota, so what do you expect? Be prepared to change a light bulb every 200k or so.
There's a reason Toyota rules the third world 4x4 market. Only drawback is rust, so ceck the frame and typical rust spots.

Only 474k km? A bargain:rofl:

But he knows what he's got there:
Any unsettled hostility, strife, struggle, dispute, engagement, exercise, insurrection, militant/military, mobilization, provocation, quarrel, resistance, suppression, or contention (Whatever MSM wants to call it today) is perfect and this would make an excellent conflict zone vehicle. Sunroof delete allows the roof to be cut out in a perfect balance spot to mount a machine gun, anti-aircraft gun, rotary cannon, which ever weapon the locals have will likely fit. Plus, unlike a pickup truck, there’s support for you to lean on while in the “theater of active engagement”. Once you’re done your day job of fighting, take the girlfriend out for date as a 4 Runner is one of the most versatile weaponizable date night, vehicles out there.
:rofl::rofl:

3.4 v6 is a decent engine as long as it's even marginally maintained. Not a performance engine, merely adequate. If you happen across one that's old enough to have the 3.0 v6 just leave it be. They like to fail head gaskets and then take out the bottom end afterwards. Aside from being gutless and inefficient.

I know 3 people with 99-01's with a 3.4 all in the 180-250k mile range and they love them. They all have a 3" lifts and 33's. They get better mileage than my 5.3 rainier stock. The people that own them either keep them in good shape and ask a lot for them or they are wasted and worthless.

A 4.0 GC and a 01 or older 4 runner have the same issue where they are getting old and junk yard parts are kinda starting to become less plentiful.

The 02+ V8 ones are crazy priced though. Like double of what a 5.3 denali envoy costs. A 100k-150k denali envoy is 6-8k and a 150-200k v8 4 runner is 8-15k. Its nuts.

I don't think the people who have ads for Toyota 4Runners actually want to sell them. Not one has replied to me after I responded to their ad. So I ended up with another Jeep. It's a 2003 limited that is fully equiped and has the select trac transmission which I like. It has the 4.7 HO engine which had 151,000 miles on it which arre mostly highway so I'll see how that does. The control arms that were rusted on the Jeep have been recently replaced and there is virtually no rust on the Jeep and everything works. He's getting the safety done on it tomorrow and a wheel alignment on Wednesday which is included in the price so if it's all good I pay him the rest on Wednesday and away I go. It comes with a few spare parts he has collected, panels with switches that are know to have problems. The guy I am buying it from is retired so he has a hobby shop and he reallly keeps his stuff nice. This Jeep was his friends who drove it around taking their dogs to dog shows and the Jeep does not look like it was driven hard. No cracks or marks on the bumbers and the patch of rust that always shows up on the to of the front wheel well is not there and it does not look like any touch was done, the Jeep is black so that color does not hide anything.

Check the skidplate that holds the gas tank, they're usually rusted from the inside out. If it's rusted bad enough the tank just falls out.
