Just perusing around ebay as I always do, I ran across this little gem of a trunk lamp. Everyone else that actually has NOS ones were priced around this one.

Claims to be NOS. A blind azz rat could figure out this isn't NOS. I'm saddened by sellers that try to deceive. Don't fall for this. It's not the only one out there and certainly you can buy brand new for around the same price point. Crazy.

Just because there's a GM package hanging around doesn't mean the part isn't used. I do this myself sometimes with little parts that are used but still useable, so I can find them later, but mark them USED on the outside of the package.

I think it's just a generational thing where younger sellers don't really understand that it means NEW Old Stock. They have likely seen the acronym used in other auctions where the original box is shown and just assume that's all it is... You think it's more intentional than just misunderstood?

Doesn't excuse it, but my thinking is buyers like those of us that have been around can spot the frauds a mile away and help out the community like you do to spread awareness to those who could get dupped.

I've seen a lot "NOS" with a premium price. on Ebay. Some from seasoned sellers. It is a shame sellers try to pass off used & non-original aftermarket parts as the real deal. I do think some sellers toss that in the listing where ever they can to attract attention when you do a search. I see it with them tossing in every possible word or name just to pollute a search with say a rusty, damaged & pitted grill for a Rambler while I look for C3 power mirror parts. Reporting it to Ebay does nothing as if it's pulled they'll lose money. I've reported listings that never went away dispite how off & wrong the listing was. I mean how many NOS G body Monte parts are the same used on a 2000's JDM Toyota Corolla?

I work on powersports for others on the side from my day job. I especially like it when they (the seller) takes a cheap knock off part and put a fake oem looking lable next to it and ask for almost the same amount as the oem part. If you don't know better a person wouldn't think twice.

Some eBay sellers also list aftermarket parts as nos. Years ago, I told a seller on eBay that his his new Moog tie rods were not nos. He replied that they were nos, just not oem. To me and most car guys, nos has to be from the original manufacturer.
