Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

I'll have to get the new cat and the old cat next to each other and take some measurements before "surgery."

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

I would greatly appreciate that Dave. I just measured the Pypes mufflers. The muffs themselves are 14" - add about 1" on each end as the mounting point, calling it 16" in length. Wish I could do as you suggest with the cat. Unfortunately, the California testing includes a sniffer up the...

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Good info Dave, nice to confirm. Have the Pypes in the garage. Been too busy to mount. Used Flitz, a polisher pad and drill motor to polish the stainless mufflers. They turned out nice. I have an exta old cat. I'm thinking of ordering a good low restriction cat and putting that extra...

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Thanks Joe. Good thing I ordered the Pypes then. They did have a unique call out for El Camino. Pypes cost more but that other sysem was "Aluminized" and dropped to 2 1/8" behind the mufflers AND was wrinkle bent. $365 gets all 2.5" Stainless and look at these bends: They say it's a...

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Thanks megaladon6, you're a man of few words .... er ... no words. But a website is worth a million words. Pypes shows the EC and the MC interchangable AND the Pypes are mandrel bends too! Cool. Thanks for the link

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Thanks. This EC was a one owner until my 86 year old Dad gave it to my son for his 16th Birthday. My Dad had lost his depth perception over the years so it wasn't a sweet as you would expect most one owners to be. It was so bad, my son preferred to ride the bus to H.S. I asked if we...

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

That's the "other" thing I heard. Hope you're right. If true, a straight extension is a piece of cake. Might even add one of those dual outlet on each pipe to make up the difference ... if there is any. We have a roll pan that makes the rear about 5+ inches shorter.

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Adding an inch or two (or 3 or 4) can get a bit messy when you don't weld. Guess I have no choice. No one makes anything for the EC. I can get a catback with 2 1/8 splitting at the cat, going into two Flowmasters, over the axle and straight back to each side exiting at the rear. $255...

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

In other words, are Monte Carlo and El Camino Wheel bases the same ... or close? I'm pretty sure earlier generations of ECs used station wagon floorpans and frames. But did this hold true for the G body EC or is it the same wheel base as the MC and a Malibu coupe and a Malibu 4 door???

Will a Monte Carlo cat back system fit an EC?

Tried to search for this but got about 1300 results (?)! I live in California and therefore subject to smog testing. Our 79 EC has a high output 5.0 from a 91 Trans Am. I have CARB approved Edelbrock headers - they mate to a larger Edelbrock Y tube going into the cat, but the cat back is...

    Wheel fitment challe

Good to hear. I put 2" spacers all around the EC and tested my old vette wheels - 16" x 9.5" wearing 255 - 50 - 16s all around. The backs fit fine. The fronts rubbed BADDLY - inside bottom of rim against the upper A arm. Ugly scars and shavings. I'm hoping that I can mount some 17 x 8.5 C5...

    Wheel fitment challe

Thanks VenomousRegal, that's good to hear. The wheel adapters can handle the off set issues. I'm thinking of going to a wheel retailer to get actual fitment measurements. Those 275s are pretty wide.

    it never ends

Thanks for the bulb tips guys. This is also a pieve of mine. I took the instrument panel out and sprayed some "chrome" paint in the "light pods" to get some more reflectivity. It helped, but not as Tim the tool man says, "It needs more power" ... for my tastes. Of course, it could be failing...

    Wheel fitment challe

Wheel fitment challenge ... Hi everyone, First post and I already want to tap the knowledge base here. My 85 year old Dad gave my 16 year old his one owner 1979 ElCamino. I've raised my son to be a Chevy lover, but he is having a difficult time getting excited about the very worn and...
