It has a code 42, which I believe is : Bypass or electric spark timing (est) circuit. What should I begin to check?

This plug to check the engine codes on my wagon looks different than the one posted above... which is A&B? It doesn't have as many terminals as the one posted.

That is very good mileage. I was doing quite well with my gas mileage even with stock equipment on mine.

OK that helps me a lot. The bulb is burnt out so first I'll have to swap one in. So it's key on engine off and I'm jumping "A" and "B" with a paper clip??

Ok, I connect a and b with a paper clip, then I get a code 12. After that, how do I tell what each session of flashes (codes) mean?

Well, finally replaced the fuel filter. Picture of the old included. It's running better, still not 100%. Also, Is the vacuum hose in the picture in the right spot? It's connecting from the bottom of the carburetor back to the top. I'll also include a picture.

Will an OBD II scanner still be compatible? We have one in shop class but I don't own one personally. And yes I believe the carb has 2 connectors on it.
