I'm getting a used head for the other motor. The head off that one has chips in it. This used one im getting I'm thinking of rebuilding it new parts so maybe i can avoid that.
I can rebuild the used head to swap with the other one when it fails.
For now i may throw the parts in the newer...

This is an older version of the same mower that stopped dead with a loud clang. Figured since i was tearing mower engines apart I'd dig in and take a look.

I ordered the parts to put it back together. When the rockers go back on is there anything special to it? Torque spec or lash setting?
Not sure how it supposed to look, but doesn't seem to be carnage in there. I found the pushrods and that keeper plate for about $20 online. Might try it and see what happens.

This is the rod on the bottom.
A little bit of wear where it went through a plastic keeper, which is broken in pieces now.
You think that just the rod bent? Or more damage deeper? The motor will still spin.
I will ask here.
The top rocker is loose and flopping around, the bottom is still tight but off the valve.
Any ideas on the root cause. Havent had to tear any small engines down.
What do the rods ride on? Is there some kind of a cam shaft in there?

I feel removing the harness just protect it during removal. Would suck to hit it off something and break or tear the harness. Plus you will most likely need to depin some wires out of the harness.
