There’s not any 4” midrange speakers that can out perform a 5”I am going to say when they designed it they probably felt 4" was the maximum speaker size that would fit without clearance issues with the back window and possibly even with the top of the rear seat.
Maybe sell your 5" and get some 4"

It appears from their picture if you modify the surface where the speaker mounts and open up the holes to fit a 5" speaker there will probably be no surface area left to screw your speakers to, this would be assuming you want it to look right.There’s not any 4” midrange speakers that can out perform a 5”
