Biggest Rear Tires Stock 85 Monte Carlo SS

Looking for the biggest tires I can fit on rear end of stock 85 monte carlo ss. Will be getting a 383 swap in the future so planning on buying new rims and tires now.

Got recommended that 15x8 with 3.5" backspacing rims will fit with 295/50/15 Cooper Cobras to match. Will this fit on stock frame and suspension?

If not what do I need to do, excluding notching the frame. If I can not fit these with suspension upgrades or other small upgrades, what CAN I fit?

That tire will fit, but I can’t say if the 3.5” backspace is correct or not. Basing this from the 275’s I have on 15x10’s that fit easily, but I don’t have a stock rear width.

Depends on what you want to call fitting. Jack the car up high enough and anything will bolt on. If you want it tucked inside the wheelwell 275/60-15 is about the biggest.

The first set of rims I bought for my Monte long ago were 15" x 8" with 4" of backspace and I ran a 275/60R15 and they fit well without a frame notch.

These are 295/50/15 on 15x8 vette rallies. I could not get a finger between the bulge and the frame. Occasional rubbing when driving the car sideways!!!
