I am new to the forum. I recently picked up a 1980 Monte Carlo. Currently has a 267ci in it and I am in the process of sourcing a 350sbc. After the motor is swapped I am on the fence if I should go with a pro touring set up or a drag set up.
Do they mean the stock exhaust manifold? I have never heard of this regardless, but then again I have always run headers on all my Gbody'sApparently the passenger side dip stick will hit the header
First time hearing about this. I have a 406 slated to go in my blue 79 and the dip stick runs through the block on the drivers side. I at one time had a 86 El Camino that I swapped a 355 into and had to use a oil pan from a 267/305 that entered at the side of the pan due to the log style exhaust manifolds. There again it was a driver side dip stick. I cannot understand the interference with a passenger side dipstick.I spoke to a couple machine shops n they said there is an issue with the dip stick location on 78-80 Monte carlos which limits what 350 blocks can swap in. Apparently the passenger side dip stick will hit the header. Does anyone have info about this? And is there a remedy?

The oil pan on your 267 will fit other '79 & older SBC's. If you're planning on keeping the original manifolds, use your oil pan & plug the block's dipstick hole ('79 & older blocks w/ drivers side dipstick). If you find a '80 or newer it won't be a big deal, just make sure you get a good dipstick & tube. For my '81 Monte I have a '70 block & using mid '70s manifolds with true duals so I didn't have to deal with this issue. Years back when I had my '79 Monte, it had a '76 305 with the dipstick tube "pinched" between the manifold & head. No issues with checking the oil & it had header gaskets to give the extra space for the tube to clear. As for header issues with the passenger side tube, the old 305 that was in my '81 was a '81 block & had no issue with the Hedman headers I was using. This was with using a B-body stick/tube set.He works at ECAM Racing Engines in Pa. He said I could only use a 77-80 gm truck motor due to the passenger side dip stick location n when u install headers u can’t check the oil. Conveniently he had a 78 350 truck motor for sale so I’m not sure it it was BS n he wanted me to buy his motor.
