Are you asking about the dual snorkel air cleaner setup with hoses grabbing air from up front?

Where would you add them? There's not a lot of room to do that. Plus, it wasn't as effective as the 70-72 ram air, and even then that was more asthetic than functional. They did a study on that EONS ago suggesting that if the 70-72 hood scoops were moved forward some, they'd be much more effective.

I think there wouldn't be much of a straight shot to the air cleaner. Too many bends needed I would think. Cowl induction hood might be a better choice. It's probably more effective just adding a pro-charger setup or turbo something. JMO.

Yes indeed
So many people like the idea that there are a multitude of aftermarket kits to do it. You can fabricate your own if you're so inclined, and some of the creations I've seen are quite impressive. However, some are less than attractive and barely functional in the area of performance. Aside from purchasing aftermarket or combining 2 air cleaner housings you can look for dual snorkel units from Corvettes, Camaros, etc. and then track down the appropriate hoses and connections. True factory pieces ain't cheap.

You're not going to force air into the carb, the only performance gains will be from a solid supply of air that's cooler than what's under your hood. Period. As has been stated the bends in the system matter, but we're operating on an atmospheric pressure differential to get air into the carb so a few gentle ones are acceptable.

OEM dual snorkel aircleaners are expensive now, shame GMPP no longer sells them. Its not just about getting air volume into the engine, its air mass, volume × density. Aftermarket units lack Thermac to speed up engine warmup. You want the air intake in high pressure zone such as the front fascia.

Welded 3" exhaust pipes to the back of the headlight buckets, then to a dual snorkel air cleaner. Never did any back to back runs, but I'm sure it's at least 0.0001 faster in the quarter. I can tell it when the weather is below 50, the engine runs a little colder..

Could be, but the air moving thru the tubes isn't staying there long enough to soak up any heat. I've had a few instances where I've opened it up in town and almost sucked in a couple of small dogs in the screen.
