Yep, Amsterdam. Crazy monument just because. No “cons” in progress atm. Just normal everyday life for these guys. Everyone was crying about the heat. It hit 90 F. It was still a good 10 deg F cooler than what we’re used to so it wasn’t so bad for us. It usually doesn’t get that toasty here though. Humidity wasn’t as bad for sure. Great weather.Amsterdam, World Science Fiction Con? did you submit all those fake votes for the Hugos?
I was there 4 weeks ago. some of those bike riders are aggressive aren't they?Yep, Amsterdam. Crazy monument just because. No “cons” in progress atm. Just normal everyday life for these guys. Bicycle mechanics make a continuous living here. I’ve never seen so many bicycles in my life. And never seen a G-body either. Not that I expected to, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.
I never had anything like that when I was in Germany ('99,'00) or Denmark ('03). Now they were good in Germany to ensure the beer was there as you needed another one but they served it in about a pint glass. Except McDonalds, they used .75 & .5 liter cups (yes I was able to super size my beer to the .5 liter with my hamberger royal). Everywhere had those coaster but I never saw them add marks. Most times in Germany as long as I clearly said ein bier it was there. If you ever make you way to Munich make sure you stop at the Hofbräuhaus. Great beer & food.Made it back home in one piece! Yay!
Oh, and here's a really cool thing I learned in Germany about beer tabs at a bar. And maybe Europe in general, but especially Germany, I guess. We had lunch at one of those outside pub/restaurants in Cologne and figured I'd get my first beer in Europe. They bring you out this little glass, like maybe 6 oz or so. I'm like WTF? But then it's super cool. You get your coaster, then your beer. You drink beer, waiter sees it empty--- then--- AUTOMATICALLY another beer shows up and he marks the coaster.
AUTOMATIC BEERS! Love it! Even if they're small. I also found out the coaster is the shutoff valve. When you no longer want any more beer, you place the coaster on top of your beer, the waiter totals the marks on your coaster and you pay your tab. Beautiful.
TIP: Don't mark or doodle on your coaster. They may charge you for more beers.
It was in Cologne, Germany having a Kolsch beer. Have no idea of their culture around serving beer, but although the glass was small, I might as well had a funnel. Never ending beers. Couldn't believe it. I only drank maybe a couple pints, I think it was 5 or 6 beers, but the danger in it was that they were small glasses and way too easy to throw back. I spent more time trying to decipher the meat and cheese thing that I ordered. It was good, but have no idea if it was beef or what.I never had anything like that when I was in Germany ('99,'00) or Denmark ('03). yep, those are the same glasses I saw in the restaurant the day we were in Cologne last month. Did you tour the cathedral or the Chocolate Museum? It was in Cologne, Germany having a Kolsch beer. This is exactly what the beers looked like.
