One of the tidbits I found interesting while perusing through the 1981 A-body assembly manual for the 2 door Cutlass.

Recall before I made a guide for the side moldings based on my 87 442.

This is looking down on the driver door front and front fender where they meet. You can see the gaps and the bevel cut of the door piece to ensure it doesn't hit the front fender when opening the door.

Here's the guideline I made:

And here's what's in the book. I added measurements in red for clarity sake.

Where did you find that manual?

Here's where the "rocket" emblem goes on the front door, if applicable. 40 mm from the door edge, and bottom of emblem is 55.3 mm from the lower body "feature" line (aka body break line)

Reminds me a lot of the stance Warren Johnson's 83 H/O pro stock race car had.

I was in high school when WJ ran the 83, and then 84 H/O in Pro Stock!! Absolutely loved them both, along with DRCE Olds Big Block that he ran in them!

My dad was so close to buying an 83 H/O off the showroom floor but the dealer wanted like $2500 "local market adjustment fee" and he wasn't having any of it so he walked away. Several years later, after saving my money from working summers/weekends at the farmer's market I walked in to the same dealer, and bought my 87 Salon and the rest is history. I was all set to buy a Buick GN, but I'd already had a few Olds Cutlass', including a 73 Supreme with 455 (dad had a 73 with 350) that I was driving at the time so I went with Olds again...regrets?? maybe... 🤔

I don't think they had any 442's in stock with T Tops and I wanted that, so I chose the Salon from the showroom floor. Thinking back if I wasn't so impatient at the time, I could have ordered a 442 exactly how I wanted, but oh well...

I'm building both cars right now out of '83 and '84 H/O rollers, have the original scoop from the '84 signed by WJ, you can see them at the 2025 H/OCA Nationals next year, I'll be hosting them in Crystal Lake, IL.
