MALIBU Dash cap Overlay

Good day. Any one have experienced the overlay for a G body . I’m curious about the fit. As well as what to watch out for! As I see a lot on you tube. But no Malibu. Thanks. Dez

Not necessarily. It's been done with the dash in place. I'm sure it would be a better job if done with the dash off.

the dash cap is a very thin piece of molded plastic that follows all lines and contours. you will need to clean the surface so it will adhere correctly, and if your dash has sun damage causing it to split open you'll need to fix that too before installing the dash cap.

Thread 'Dash cap install how-to'

Hey guys,
I had a slow day here at the office so I thought I would get together all my posts from my caballero build thread and make a how-to, or rather a how I did, on my dash cap install on my 78 caballero.
Ok, lemme be upfront.
Ive never installed a dash cap before this one so I researched the heck out of it and gave it my best shot and I am very pleased with the results. Please feel free to correct me where ever you see an error, I mostly wanted to give every one that is afraid of tackling a project like this a solid jumping point and add to the forum knowledge base.

in my 82 the dash has a large rectangle molding on the pass side i had to heat up the corners with a heat gun and reformed the corners with a socket that had the right radius to get the molding to fit

I got a 79. Wonder if your experience would be the same for me . ??hmmmm. Dez
 
the 79 doesn;t have the molding i was talking about so you are good there . be sure to use black silicone by the windshield with a even bead from side to side because you can see it through the windshield

depending on your particular Gbody, in the El Camino at least there is a difference in the dash in that they changed speaker layout from one central speaker to a paired set of speakers. doublecheck your layout before ordering the correct dash cap
