1970 W-43 (A one of one factory spec build)

Considered to be the Holy Grail of Oldsmobile performance. Oh, what might have been... notice the dashes on the body tag for paint codes. All that meant was that the car was painted a non-standard color. All of the Rallye 350s had those dashes, as well as some other cars, like the 68 H/O which was painted in Peruvian Silver, a Toronado color only.

Still, it's pretty cool.

Hey, at least they dynoed the motor, it made 560 HP and 540 ft-lbs of torque. This Pentroof 4 valve motor was nicknamed the "Killer" for a reason.

Wonder where he got the head. He said it was missing one head when he got the motor. Maybe he got the drawings and had it made.

So it's overhead cam?

I would think the second motor was used for specs for the intake and they would be able to just mirror the other head. Not cheap that’s for sure!!

He made another head, someone from Olds involved with the original project showed up. He is lucky anyone involved is still alive.

One word: Incredible.

Yes, it was. One former Olds employee who has since passed on, that Chevrolet threw an absolute fit when this motor was planning on being built. Whether that has any truth to it, only those involved would have known. Unfortunately whether it was true or not, rising insurance and probably more the upcoming emissions and fuel efficiency standards played a much bigger part in it's demise. It was a big as what if as Olds F-88 which would have killed the Corvette in every way, yet was never built for anyone but Harley Earl.
