Who would pay $55 or more for the moroso version, i know i wouldnt, but unfortunately... i did.

Story goes... i was looking to build a home made tool to test with, from the few YT example videos i've seen, i bought all the needed parts for cheap to accomplish what i set out to do.

I thought i had failed when everyone else i've seen get it right, and after all this time, it wasnt me, it was the used powervalve(s) i was testing, what i thought were good, they were actually bad.

It never dawned on me to test with a brand new power valve first to see if my setup was actually working correctly, suction wise from the hand held vacuum pump and the adapter used to see if it was actualy holding a vacuum, naturally i was testing used power valves that werent used very long, i though were good, but were apparently shot.

The moroso unit i bought actually showed me that used 8.5hg i was testing by mouth seemed good, was actually bad, it leaked down a good rate, wouldnt hold vacuum, and its less than a year old, using it off and on, in and out of the carburetor(670SA). I was suspicous of it when starting the engine two weekends ago, it would rump like it had somewhat of a radical cam when the ZZ4 has a mild cam when cold with the electric choke on when it was a lot smoother before. After it warmed up and smoothed out, i cruised it for 20miles, no WOT runs, and the throttle response didnt seem as crisp as before. After i got home, i let the engine cool down for an hour, checked the spark plugs(ac delco fr5ls) and it was lightly blackened, running way rich all of a sudden for no reason, its never happened before, now i know.

End story... after buying the moroso unit and figuring out the bad power valve(8.5hg) against the brand new one i had on hand(6.5hg), i finally figured out what i was doing wrong with my home made setup and stupidly knowing i spent money i didnt need too, so forget the old ways of using your mouth as a vacuum, its not a reliable way to know which PV is bad and which is not.

Parts needed.... Mityvac hand pump(use suction cup adapter) or similar, 6-8 inches of 3/16" ID vacuum hose and adapter kit by mityvac if you buy a different brand hand pump, use the suction cup part that attaches to the PV by vacuum.

Thanks for the insight! I've found myself making quite a few silly mistakes this past year (worse than this), some due to rushing things and some from memory loss. And since the parts we buy seem to constantly change design or materials some of the old practices just don't transfer.

I figure most of the people here are on EFI anyway, but for us carburetor guys, and for around 1/3 of the cost of the moroso unit to build... this homemade tool works.

Heres the moroso unit i bought... its solid and hefty in weight, but still overpriced for what it is, half the price would be more attractive IMO, but since theres no competition, it is what it is,

Yes, it does have the PV blowout protection, but The ONLY thing i can think of is the 10% ethenol 93octane gas i use... slowly eats at the rubber diaphram, other than that, i havent a clue and i am using genuine holley power valves.

Just to get an idea on how this works for those that want to build this kit for themselves, i found a great example YT video of one in use, not mine.
