I’ve been thinking lately. Since I have the battery and now a fuel surge tank in the trunk. Per NHRA rules I need to have a firewall separating the trunk from the passenger compartment. Which I had always planned to have. What sort of changes now and what this post is about. Being that I will have a firewall. I won’t be able to have the 6x9s on the package tray.
My question to you guys is. Have any of you ran the speakers in the side panels of the back seats and how did you like it? There is a couple of basic options like the link I’ll share. There is also some nicer options or probably just try and make a nice DIY similar to the nicer one in the pic I shared.
How have you guys liked it? Any nice ones you recommend?

As of right now I’m thinking the 3.5s on the dash. Since I don’t have the emergency/park brake pedal or factory ecm I’m thinking of doing a 6.5 on the kick panel or possibly the door. Then another set of 6.5s on the side back seat panels and a single 10 sub in the trunk.
I’m no it trying to have a crazy sound system just nice sounds for trips and the kids love music when I take them to school.

I think that's a reasonable plan of attack. The only other option I see is getting shallow mount 6x9 or 6.5 speakers and making small boxes for them that sit above the package tray.

I made my own. Have not tested them yet so I can’t answer the second half of your question, but I think they’ll do just fine for what I want. Sky’s the limit, you’re only limited by your imagination and budget.

6.5” speakers will fit with 1” thick speaker ring depending on mounting depth in the quarter panel. I don’t have any pictures but I took a piece of 1/4” thick ABS and made my own fill panels, did need a hole for the magnet but the speakers I used are from DS18 and more on the larger side. Tried 6x9s before, regret making them fit.

If I’d do the fronts again (which I will be) either a single 5.25” speaker in the door with a custom box, or dual 5.25s. I put a pair of 5.25s in the kick panels, and they intrude too far into the footwell. That and modifying the parking brake pedal is necessary.
