Neutral Safety switch

What brand shifter do you have? You should be able to get a switch for that shifter and then just run the purple wire from the ignition switch to the NSS switch. Then run from the NSS to the S terminal on the starter.
Motion Raceworks 4l80 shifter

According to their description, it has a built in neutral safety switch. Just run the purple wire from the ignition switch to the NSS. Then run a wire from the NSS to the S terminal on the start

I have a 79 Cutlass Calais. My question is car doesn’t have neutral safety switch I’m running aftermarket shifter I have reverse lights figured out but two purple wires I need help with. What ways to wire this??
Thank you everyone I got it

On top of what ELCAM posted for the wire diagram, the stock columns for automatics has a built in mechanical stop that would only allow the circuit to work if the shifter (column or floor via back drive linkage) to only open when the blocker allowed the electric ignition switch to be pushed by the rod from the ignition lock being turned. This is why in most cases it is best to keep that shifter/back drive linkage to work the column switches in the stock manor.

I had to disregard the linkage to the column when I installed a 4L80E in place of the 200. The shift lever is about 2" towards the rear of the car.

Plan to get the shift linkage talking to the rod that runs up to the column. Ideas are welcome.
Even if you get a the starter to interupt, there is still the reverse lights and it needs to be in Park to allow the key out.

For 4l80 the easiest option I have found it the stock NSS front the trucks. This is the route I'm taking. plenty of write ups online.
easy to get off the shelf parts.

Just make sure that you don't try to power up the purple wire to the starter directly from that switch. Use a relay. That switch may not be able to handle enough current to engage the starter solenoid.
