I have an old wire that keeps breaking... it's a 10 gauge red wire that goes from the alternator directly to the battery. It appears to have a fuse built into it. Do I have to have this fuse? Or can I just run a new 10 gauge wire?

I know I should've probably done this before the rebuilt motor was installed, but what all can I get rid of now that I'm using an Edelbrock carb? I have a bunch of unhooked wiring everywhere. My mechanic said he'd get rid of anything I didn't need but he didn't so now I'm stuck with a mess.
