    1980 GP 265v8 to 350 Pontiac Questions....

Engine Swap No, what i mean was this: it looks like one mount is longer than the other, so as to center the engine on the frame mounts. The holes on the mount line up with the holes on the block only one way so the position of the engine relative to the frame is not my concern. My question...

    My engine swap 1980 GP

OK. So I have a 1980 GP that has a 265VB/TH 200 in it. I am going over to a GM 350 crate engine w/ a 700R4. I have my work cut out for me though that's for sure. Tips: Remove the nose and radiator support - The amount of room you have is great to work especially if you have to pull...

    th350 to 700r

You can buy a 700R4 cross member on line now, I don't have the link, do a google on it. Shorten that driveshaft 3 inches - exactly 3 inches. Get a transmission cooler and adjust the TV cable the right way. The crossmember is a bolt up AND has two humps for your exhaust pipes to go thru. I think...

    will a 200 transmission bolt to 350 lt1

use that TH-200 to teach yourself how to rebuild an automatic transmission. That is about it's useful purpose in 2007. It's so easy now to put your choice of transmissions into these cars, even a 5 speed manual, why the hell would you want to mess with that. IT IS a weak link, trust me. I am...

So I am going bowtie in my 80 GP

yeah, considering weight, the suspension and all that crap, plus I wanna keep my AC , i am going to do a small chevy. For me i think its good cause I am a super newbie and it seems even I cannot screw this up, like everything else its going to be harder to get the 4.3 V8 out than a new engine...

I once broke an upper control arm mount off the frame

never thought about rust I inspected that area yesterday and while there is surface rust there are no areas where the frame is like completely rusted thru, i.e no holes. I think I am still going back to rubber because the whole thing is way to "stiff", my other problem being is I am spoiled by...

    400 into a 1980 grand prix

Good point never thought about the weight issue..... do I go bowtie and lighten the load? More my concern about the transmission was the crossmember, this is going to be a better than daily driver I think, not a full out race car.

I once broke an upper control arm mount off the frame

Upgraded to polyurethane upper control arm bushings on my 1980 GP, NY's roads aren't kind so I broke the mount one day. A mechanic re welded it but I am skeptical, I want to put the car back on the road but first want to go back to good ol' rubber. Should i throw the car out?
