    Do these things work?

I used aftermarket bushing(s) at the shift lever end of the shift cable on a 6L80 truck. With a new GM lever (integral ballstud,) the aftermarket bushings failed to keep the cable retained. The ballstud is no gem. I removed it. Turned and threaded a bolt. Pressed the bolt into the lever to...

Could someone share some detail pics of a center console/shift setup for an 87ish El Camino?

Stock, the console cars had a rectangular bracket spot-welded to the floor. This bracket is reproduced; Mike's Minted has it. The console storage has 2 screws at the bottom into the bracket. They received a rear shifter bracket; the back of the shifter screws down here. The front two "arms" of...

    LSx Swap Parts Database

The way to fly when doing a mechanical linkage in a 78-88 is skip the original bent fork. Skip the original bellhousing. And go for 82-83 F-body angled, straight fork like a Lakewood. In a dual-pattern Lakewood 15015, that puts the fork end right where the original would be for the pushrod. Is...

    88 Trunk Interior

Hey, good luck with the project. Since I have seen a few 81-88 with quarter panels replaced, I will friendly-suggest you check the fitment between the taillight housing and quarter and this panel before you tear-down. And when it is coming back together, use the taillight bucket to test the...

    SBC T56 driveline vibration?

Set up an oscilloscope app on your phone. The speed of it the vibration(s) can be determined and you can narrow it down to driveline speed or axle speed. The T56 is not as likely to be a source of vibration, but you should verify there's basically no play at the yoke to bushing. The F-body and...

    Serpentine Belt System Install

I have had no problem with the support strap on the compressor. I believe swappers will find the newer compressors for serpentine applications don't typically have double straps. I have been able to use R4 compressors from early NBS S10 4.3. On the return line, I use a stub fitting in the box...

    LS Swap with TKO 500/600

Step 1: make sure the TKO and rear gear are the ratios you actually want to drive long-term. Step 2: measure the output yoke center height and crewmember height of stock parts. If your new trans. has the same output shaft height with a thick (I am looking at you, Energy Susp.) mount with a...

LS/6L80E into G Body (El Camino)

You have no idea how similarly I wanted to build my Aero. Even the LC9 E-Rod. Sorry if I missed it in other posts; how did the included exh. manifolds fit; any issues by the LCA mounting?

torque to yield harmonic balancer LS1

When a service manual or guide refers to bolt as one-time use, it could mean a few things. Some bolts from an OEM parts source have thread locking compound, sealant, or lubricant pre-applied. So instead of specifying a specific sealant / lubricant / compound, they just tell their techs to use a...

torque to yield harmonic balancer LS1

The smooth shank section of the bolt is greater diameter than the thread minor diameter. It is automatically not torque-to-yield based on that. Same for ARP. If it doesn't call for it in an assembly manual, don't lubricate a torque-specific fastener thread without caution; it can lead to...

    HELP Tool suggestion?

You should start w/ a balljoint press and sleeves made from pieces from the plumbing section of the hardware may be a better fit. Allthread or long bolt can be used w/ sleeves to make a remover / installer tool too. I've never had to torch them out.

    Hunting 2020

Saw a good group of turkey Sunday morning while out on a cow elk hunt. Unfortunately, it is a very dry year and the elk are not out and about, so my draw week was without success. The canyon we started exploring late in the week will need further exploration over the next year. The trails into...

    Mechanical or Hydraulic? (vote)

I ran 84-92 Camaro V8 T5, master / slave and bell. The shifter position is really good for a G-body console. The 200-4R speedo cable worked with it. The hydraulics worked like in a Camaro. It required crossmember mods, a hole in the floor, and pedals welded to work. Everything else was "buy...

    79 GP LJ with T-tops

A friend in high school had a 78 in that 2 tone color pairing, with the same color bucket interior. No CC1 option though. 301, and posi that "wasn't hooked up, but can be." He sideswiped someone when we were on lunch once, and IIRC, married a fat midget. Memories.

Possible oil pressure sensor location? BBC

You're the one with the BBC in hand. I'm not. lol If you can access it, you're looking above the bellhousing face, driver's side.

Possible oil pressure sensor location? BBC

The BBC location isn't up as high as the SBC, but driver's side of the distributor area, you'll find one. While this location seems like more work to access, I like it, since it doesn't interfere with clutch linkage. I used the brass fittings/adapters/elbows from a TPI '86 Camaro, which were...
