    C5 vs blazer brakes

I went with the corvette brakes, but I was already planning on doing larger rims (17 or 18)

Welding sheet metal with flux core vs gas shield welder ?

I converted my old (old) DC stick welder into a scratch start TIG. 300 bucks got me most everything I needed (torch, hoses, regulator, fittings and connectors) Plus another almost 300 for the tank of argon (150ish for the tank, plus 120 to fill). Now whenever I need more gas, I get it from the...

1986 Gbody frame. Replace 2door frame with 4door frame. Possible?

If it's just the rear that's rusted away, you can get new rear sections and weld them in. That's what I did on mine.

    Mechanical fuel pump 200ci v6

It's been a while since I've had a fuel pump off, but if memory serves, even at it's highest point there is still some spring pressure on it, but you should be able to get the bolts started and pull it on that way. I'd also consider putting some grease on the contact points of the push rod and...

Help with 7.5 gear and posi swap

I also went with the solid bushing and shims. It just seemed like a better setup than crush sleeves, but that's just my opinion. But it's way more time consuming to set them just right (especially when you don't have the original crush sleeve to measure off of) and like Bonnewagon stated, you do...

Help with 7.5 gear and posi swap

I'd suggest replacing the bearings and seals while you're in there. Essential tools: Dial indicator, a good dial or vernier caliper. Bearing pullers. Torque wrench. Patience. Non-essential but very handy to have: a pinion depth tool (they're pretty cheap off summit but it makes life a bit...

    Malibu woes

First thing I'd check is that your fuel pump is actually getting the fuel to the carb. If yes, then it's a problem with the carb (possibly sticking float, or plugged lines. I'm by no means a carburetor expert, but it's the troubleshooting I'd do.

What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Finally jumped into the long daunting task of bodywork. Cut out some rust and welded in a patch on the fender.

    Jeep Front Axle Question

If it were only 1/2 inch, I'd say it's possible, but not 2 inches. Try clamping one end of the old one down and pulling on it, if it moves 2 inches you've got your answer.

What was your first car ! Give us some background.

Yup. She had over 300Km when the engine finally crapped. This was 2003-4ish, so finding parts was already getting pretty scarce.

What was your first car ! Give us some background.

82 Pontiac Acadian. 4 speed standard and 2 hamsters on a wheel. 3rd generation hand-me-down but I was in high school and didn't have to take the bus anymore so I didn't care. A major pain to drive in winter on account of the pedals being so close, my boots would always catch the brake when I...

    Threaded File for thread fixing.

I've used those types at work before, and I have always just found it easier using a regular triangle file.

Whats the farthest you driven your gbody?

About 400 feet through the yard. It wasn't so much driving as it was being pulled by my dad's truck. But I had to do some steering, so it still counts!

    Frame/floor paint....

I used "limco low VOC acrylic 1k" something or other. It's what the guy at the automotive paint supply place recommended. I don't have much painting experience, but it seemed to go on nicely. It seems like it's durable, a lot harder than just regular paint. If memory serves it was a bit pricey...

    big brake and wheel upgrade

It's fairly easy Step 1. Take your budget and toss it out the window. It'll cost you. Step 2a. Check out Kore3, they make all kinds of kits. Probably costs more, but it's a full kit, easy to install. Step 2b. 2wd blazer spindle swap. Fairly cheap, if you can find decent parts at an auto wrecker...

The Conrad kit. Finding any of these cars for parts is nearly impossible around here.

Looking for a shop to replace rear frame rails

I did mine myself and you couldn't pay me enough to do it with the body still on the frame. Even without the body on, it was a full afternoon job (mind you, half the time was building a jig to keep everything in place) You can probably buy a small welder for the same price as it would cost to...

    Finish welding question

I'd suggest finding a scrap piece the same thickness as the panel and trying it out to get the temp/speed just right. I've never used that exact welder, so I can't comment on those settings, but I'd probably be looking somewhere around the 60-70 amp range, and not too much feed, and more of a...

How do you guys fund your G body?

Millwright for a poultry processing plant. I set aside a bit of money every payday until I've got enough for the next step of the project. Progress has slowed down quite a bit due to saving money for a down-payment on a house.
