    1986 cutlass salon 350 lt1 or 403

I've seen it done before. You need to cut the cross member for the engine mounts to the oil pan. The 403 is the easier option.

Good question. Could be that they forcibly keep the union out, but I would bet the real reason is management. Manage people well and treat them fairly and they won't unionize. Even if you have a union, management can often decide how much workers want to exercise their union rights.

It isn't so much that they get outside parts. It is that they buy inferior outside parts to save money that break and then those are the parts that end up failing. Then the unions got a lot of the blame for poor quality.

New engine for the old girl

My family has run Rotella in the Cutlass ever since Havoline reduced the ZDDP in their oil years ago. We've run Rotella in a 1938, 1947, and 1955 tractor pretty much forever. All are still going strong. A friend of mine used to run it in his '57 Chevy and 90 Camaro. Last I talked to him, his...

New engine for the old girl

Rollers also allow steeper smoother ramps to max lift. OP, you will want to run Shell's Rotella oil or some other additive. Bonus points in that high ZDDP is good for the valves, the rings, and the bearings too.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't turn as far either if you try to use your old pitman arm.

Fair enough. I mentioned it because a guy I grew up with often removed huge dents using a technique he learned from his welder dad. It is almost an artform to get it perfect, but you could often make imperfections less so they could be removed with body filler. Though I'd throw it out there...

You have bondo on it now, but you could have tried heat stress relieving it. Basically you warm it up pretty hot (you'll need a torch). Then you start misting it with water. Helps if you have someone pushing it up inside if it is really sucken.

    do g body seats fit into a 78 a body malibu ?

They do. If you have a full bench, you'll have to add the two inner ones from another car.

    the baby diesel

Diesels should come with replaceable liners. Hell I think gas engines should too. But I have weird ideas about it being better for the environment keeping an old car going then buying a brand new one and sending the old one to a junk yard.

    Carbon, where will it go?

If you can get it out, do so. However, that area provided you have the EGR hooked up will always have air moving away from the cylinders towards your intake. Chances are, it would just get hung up on the EGR. If you are deleting the EGR, you can try vacuuming it, or turn the motor over a bit...

i tend to see it to much too. It also doesn't open like real lambo doors. Suicide doors are always awesome though.

    Carbon, where will it go?

Vacuum it if you have a good vacuum. Otherwise it will blow right back up to where your EGR is.

questions about g-bodies and their frame structure

The El-Camino and maybe the Nova has the shorter wheel base. All others have identical frames.

    steering noise

Your belt isn't tight enough for the pump to overcome the relief mechanism in the pump, which honestly, I think is too high for these. You can tighten it up, but if you overdue it you will shorten your pump life. I usually tighten mine up until it won't do it when dry but spraying a light mist...
