    wagon tailgate lock gasket

It’s good to have these on hand because unlike the door lock cylinders, the tailgate lock cylinder gaskets do not come with the new cylinder and I have not seen anywhere that lists them as even available.

    wagon tailgate lock gasket

I have some tailgate lock cylinder gaskets available to any of you Gbody wagon guys. These should fit any of the Gbody wagons tailgate lock cylinder. They will not fit Gbody door lock cylinders as those are smaller. They were made buy a member here (69hurstolds). He wanted them to be...

    Tailgate lock

I can confirm the Dorman 77101 lock cylinder with wings assembly which is listed for S-10 Blazer and Olds Bravada tailgates works in G body wagons. Here’s a demonstration video.

    Tailgate lock

Yeah, the one that came on the car when we got it was the original chrome one. It had been drilled so the gate part is no longer there. As far as the replacement being black instead of chrome, that's not a big deal for this car. The car is a rag tag survivor with cookie sheets patching floor...

    Tailgate lock

Honestly, I may have recognized the release button at some point in the past. If I had, it obviously slipped my mind. 😑

    Tailgate lock

On a Google search fit tailgate lock 79 Malibu that’s what comes up although Dorman lists it as fitting S-10 Blazer and Bravada. The part pictured looks the same as my part so I give it a try and post back. Here are pics to compare

    Tailgate lock

I took the lock cylinder apart and the springs are destroyed. Not a big deal because a replacement assembly is cheap and readily available. Dorman available on Amazon for $20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000B66UUM/?tag=gbody-20

    Tailgate lock

And here's the discovery that blew my mind. This car came equipped with electric tailgate release and I didn't even know it. After seeing the motor in the tailgate I open the glove box and found the release button. I tested for power at the button (ignition on) and it had 12v. I pushed the...

    Tailgate lock

Here's the lock and wing assembly removed. If you look close you can see that one of the tumbler springs puked out of the cylinder. I have the old lock mechanism and I'm hoping to get parts from it to repair this cylinder. I know that old cylinder got previously drilled out but it still has...

    Tailgate lock

Here's the latch pull I made. The access will be via removing the tag light After removing the tag light, drill a hole through the inner sheet metal so a coat hanger section can extend up through the hole. Leave the hanger section long at this stage. Make a loop in the upper part of the...
