I have about an inch clearance now. The only way I can change the depth in the shroud is to eliminate the fan clutch and go to a mechanical fan. I don't mind doing that as I'm more concerned with cooling performance. If I get rid of the clutch, that will move the fan blade closer to the engine...
I have a 454 in an 85 El Camino and I'm installing the rad with an Olds fan shroud and metal top plate. Issue is my 19 inch fan blade hits the shroud at the top front where the shroud is angled. It doesn't hit by much. My first thought was to modify the fan blades for clearance. After some...
This may be a title late for you, but I put a 454 with Brodix top end with tall valve covers in my 85 El Caminor. I'm running a TH350 w/ a GV od unit and I ended up going with Sanderson BB3 headers. They fit great with no issues and they say they will work with auto or stick. There looks to be...
What issues did you encounter with the ductwork? Did you have to change all the ducting or was some of it the same? My car is sitting in storage at the body shop so I don't have access to see what mine looks like, plus the dash is still installed. I just received a complete heat only set-up so I...
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. The info given is what I was hoping for. First off, the reasons for the swap are, I don't care for the appearance of the 81-87 dash with the trim plate, I like the 78-80 better and the motor I'm installing has tall valve covers (stud girdles). I'm not...
I have an 85 El Camino that I'm deleting the A/C and installing a heat only box because of installing a BBC motor. I want to install a 78-81 dash. My question is, will it bolt right in? I want to eliminate the center vents and keep the end vents. I know the ductwork is different for heat only...
Thanks for the input. I opted for the OEM style cuz I'm trying to keep it subtle and stock looking. This way I can use the factory fan shroud. Although it's going to be difficult to make Brodix heads and intake look stock. You have a very nice, neat setup. Kudos on the attention to details.
Thanks. I assumed an aftermarket alum rad would do a better job of cooling than a copper/brass one. I think I have an NOS 4 core rad for a 72 Elco this motor was originally going in. I'll have to check the size. Would you go with a Cold Case again? Is yours a 4 core? Most of what I found were 2...
While I'm Waiting for my Brodix Top End Kit to arrive I'm gathering some other needed parts. What radiator has others used for a similar swap? Prefer to stay american made and in the $500 - 600 price range. Hoping for an OEM fit. Will the original fan shroud work? If not any recommendations...
I have installed the Blazer spindle/caliper set-up on my 85 Elco and want to know who else has done this and what brake hose did you use? Any pictures of the routing would be appreciated.
I'm looking at installing this setup in my 85 Elky, mostly because I plan on putting in a 454 this winter and it will give me some underhood room. That plus I ripped out a lot of the OEM stuff a few years back. Does this setup still pull outside air in? I see you took your dash out which, no...
85 El Camino project.
I am installing S10 dual piston front calipers and single piston calipers on the rear and I'm looking for recommendations for a master cylinder and proportioning valve. I figured someone has done this and can suggest the best choice for parts. Thanks.
EL CAMINO!
My grandfather got one as a shop delivery vehicle when I was about 14, been in love with them ever since. Primarily 70-72. I've owned 9 over the years.
Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions and comments. I'm pleased to announce the header fitment issue has been solved. I got a set of Hedman # 68600 and they fit perfectly. I had to lift the motor up to get the old passenger side header off and while it was up install the new one but...
